HCA Healthcare Kingwood supports early literacy for new families
Some of a
baby’s earliest moments with their parents can also become the start of a
lifelong love of learning.
HCA
Houston Healthcare Kingwood is partnering with Raising A Reader to help new
parents learn about early literacy resources before they leave the hospital.
Before discharge, care teams will introduce families to tools that can help
make reading part of their daily routine at home.
The
partnership is designed to support families during a meaningful time of
transition. Reading with young children can help strengthen parent-child
bonding, support early language development and encourage habits that can
benefit children as they grow.
“Reading
is one of the simplest ways parents can connect with their baby in those
earliest days,” said Dr. Lindsay Turner CCC-SLP, NICU Therapy Supervisor at HCA
Houston Healthcare Kingwood. “Through this partnership, we can share practical
resources before families go home, helping them build a routine that supports
bonding, communication and lifelong learning.”
For many
families, the first days after birth are filled with new routines. By
introducing early literacy resources while parents are still in the hospital,
HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is helping families take a simple, meaningful
step they can continue at home.
The
effort reflects the hospital’s commitment to caring for families beyond
clinical needs and supporting the health and development of children from the
beginning.
