Houston Medical Times ("we", "us") publishes healthcare news at medicaltimesnews.com. This policy explains what information the website collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Reading the site
You can read Houston Medical Times without giving us any personal information. The site does not use advertising trackers, and it does not set cookies for readers (the only cookie it uses is a sign-in cookie for our own staff).
To understand our readership, our own server counts page views as daily totals: which pages were read, which websites or search engines sent readers to us, and whether visitors used a phone, tablet or computer. To count each visitor only once per day, your IP address and browser type are scrambled with a one-way code that is kept only in memory and thrown away every night. We do not store your IP address for this, and the totals cannot be traced back to you.
Information you send us
When you fill in one of our forms, we receive what you type:
- Free email subscription: your email address.
- Contact form: your name, email address, phone number, subject and message.
- Print subscription request: your name, email address, phone number, company, mailing address, subscription length, payment method (check or cash; we never ask for card numbers online), any discount code, and whether you would like to hear about advertising.
- Article submissions: your name, email address, subject, message and any files you attach.
We use this information only to respond to you and to do what you asked: send you each new issue, set up a print subscription, or consider your article for publication. Form messages are stored on our website's server and emailed to our staff.
Our email newsletter
If you subscribe, we email you each new monthly issue, starting with a welcome email that includes the current issue. Every newsletter email has a link to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time.
Companies that help us run the site
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. A few service providers handle information on our behalf so the site can work:
- Render hosts the website and its data, with network protection from Cloudflare.
- Resend delivers our emails and keeps our newsletter mailing list.
- Open-Meteo provides the Houston weather shown on the site. Your browser asks Open-Meteo for the forecast directly, so they receive your IP address as part of that request.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Links to other sites
Our digital edition is hosted on Issuu, and our pages link to advertisers and other websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.
Security and spam protection
To protect the site and its forms from abuse, our server keeps a limited log of security events, such as blocked spam attempts. These entries can include an IP address, and older entries are deleted automatically as new ones arrive.
How long we keep information
We keep form messages and subscription details only as long as we need them for the reason you sent them, or as the law requires. You stay on the newsletter list until you unsubscribe.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time with the link in any newsletter. To find out what information we have about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, please contact us.
Children
This site is meant for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
